同一个安排

A neighbourhood club plans a show-and-tell evening. Each person can bring an object and talk for ten minutes. The organiser, Nina, thinks this is a fair plan because everyone has the same amount of time. She writes the rule on the invitation.

一家邻里俱乐部计划举办展示交流夜。每个人都能带一件物品,讲十分钟。组织者妮娜觉得这样公平,因为每个人时间一样。她把规则写进邀请函。

不同的需要

Before the event, one guest says that he needs help translating his story. Another guest wants to show a short silent film. A third person is nervous and only wants to speak for two minutes. Nina sees that the same plan feels different to different people.

活动前,一位来宾说自己讲故事需要翻译协助。另一位想放一段无声短片。第三位很紧张,只想讲两分钟。妮娜发现,同一个安排对不同人来说感受不一样。

一起调整

She asks the guests what would help them take part. They keep the evening's finishing time, but share the speaking time more flexibly. The person with the film introduces it briefly. The person using a translator gets a little longer. Nobody has to fill all ten minutes.

她问来宾怎样能让他们更好地参与。大家保留晚会结束时间,却更灵活地分配发言时间。放短片的人先简短介绍,使用翻译的人稍微多一点时间,也没人必须讲满十分钟。

新的理解

After the event, Nina changes next month's invitation. It gives the total time and asks guests to discuss their needs early. She still wants to be fair; now she begins by listening.

活动后,妮娜修改下个月的邀请函。上面说明总时长,并请来宾提前讨论需求。她仍希望公平,而现在,她先从倾听开始。

表示数量相同;time 是不可数名词,使用 amount 而非 number。
