旧相机的第一张新照片

When Daniel moves into his grandfather's old flat, he finds a film camera on a high shelf. His grandfather, who now lives nearby, says it stopped working years ago. Daniel offers to repair it. He imagines surprising him with a perfect photograph of the garden they used to visit together.

丹尼尔搬进爷爷以前的公寓时，在高架子上发现了一台胶片相机。如今住在附近的爷爷说，它多年前就坏了。丹尼尔提出把它修好，想用一张他们常去的花园的完美照片给爷爷惊喜。

The first repair shop cannot find the right part. A second shop offers to inspect the camera, but warns that repair may cost more than buying a working used one. Daniel nearly gives up. When he mentions this over tea, his grandfather asks whether they could visit the shop together.

第一家维修店找不到合适的零件。第二家愿意检查，但提醒维修费用可能比买一台能用的二手机还高。丹尼尔几乎放弃了。喝茶时提起这件事，爷爷问能否一起去店里看看。

At the shop, his grandfather and the owner talk for almost an hour. They discuss cameras they once used and places they photographed. Daniel, who had expected a quick visit, sits down and listens. He learns that the camera travelled with his grandfather on a journey he had never heard about.

在店里，爷爷和店主聊了将近一小时。他们谈起以前用过的相机和拍摄过的地方。丹尼尔原以为很快就能结束，此时坐下来听。他才知道，这台相机陪爷爷经历过一趟自己从未听说的旅行。

Several weeks later, the repaired camera is ready. Daniel's first photographs are uneven: one is too dark, and another cuts off the top of a tree. He apologises, but his grandfather chooses the blurred picture of their shoes on the garden path. “We were laughing here,” he says.

几周后，相机修好了。丹尼尔拍出的第一批照片水平参差不齐：一张太暗，另一张把树顶截掉了。他向爷爷道歉，爷爷却选了那张花园小路上两人鞋子的模糊照片。“这里我们正笑呢。”他说。

Daniel had wanted to restore a machine and produce an impressive gift. Instead, the project gave them several afternoons together. He keeps the imperfect photograph on his desk, where it reminds him to leave room for experiences he cannot plan in advance.

丹尼尔本想修复一台机器，做出令人惊喜的礼物。这个过程却给了他们好几个共度的下午。他把不完美的照片放在桌上，提醒自己为那些无法预先计划的经历留点空间。

I had expected a short visit, but we stayed all afternoon.
