口袋里的红纽扣

While cleaning a winter coat, June finds a red button in a pocket. It does not match the black buttons on the coat. She puts it on the kitchen table and asks her father if he knows where it came from.

琼清理冬大衣时，在口袋里发现一枚红纽扣。它和大衣上的黑纽扣并不相配。她把它放在厨房桌上，问父亲知不知道它是从哪里来的。

Her father turns it over slowly. “Your grandmother kept small things in this coat,” he says. “Perhaps she wanted to repair something.” June remembers her grandmother's sewing box, but she cannot remember any red clothes. The button remains on the table all afternoon.

父亲慢慢把纽扣翻过来。“你奶奶常把小东西放在这件大衣里。”他说，“也许她想修补什么。”琼记得奶奶的针线盒，却想不起任何红衣服。纽扣整个下午都留在桌上。

That evening, her aunt visits with an old family album. In one picture, a young June wears a red hat with one large button. She is sitting beside her grandmother. “I loved that hat!” June says. Suddenly, the little button feels much more important.

那天晚上，姑姑带着一本旧家庭相册来访。一张照片里，年幼的琼戴着顶有一枚大纽扣的红帽子，坐在奶奶身旁。“我以前可喜欢那顶帽子了！”琼说。小纽扣突然变得重要多了。

June places the button beside the photograph in a small frame. She does not need to use it on another coat. It already has a job: helping her remember someone she loves.

琼把纽扣和照片一起放进小相框。她不必把它用在另一件大衣上。它已经有了自己的任务：帮助她记起所爱的人。

While sorting my books, I found an old letter.

整理书时，我发现了一封旧信。

Perhaps she kept it for a special reason.

也许她留着它是有特别的原因。
