A community center invites neighbors to a story night. Each person can bring one small object and speak for five minutes. The invitation says, "You do not need an amazing story. Tell us why something ordinary matters to you." Mina brings an old bus ticket.
The ticket is from her first day in the town. She took the wrong bus and arrived late for a language class. A woman at the stop helped her find the right direction. Mina still remembers the woman's kind voice.
Other neighbors bring a cooking spoon, a football badge, and a paper flower. Nobody wins a prize. The host asks listeners not to interrupt and lets each speaker decide which questions to answer. Some stories make people laugh; others bring a quiet pause.
On her walk home, Mina thinks about people she had only greeted before. Now she knows a little more about their lives. Her old ticket has not changed, but sharing its story has given the small piece of paper a new memory.
