At the start of a neighborhood walking tour, guide Rosa shows six visitors two possible routes. One includes a steep hill with a wide view; the other follows level streets past workshops and a public garden. Instead of deciding immediately, she asks what each person hopes to enjoy and whether anyone has concerns about walking.
A photographer likes the idea of the hill, while an older visitor explains that long climbs are difficult for him. Another person has already seen several famous views and would prefer ordinary streets. Rosa describes the distance, available seats, and surfaces on both routes. She avoids assuming that age alone tells her what anyone can manage.
The group chooses the level route. At a workshop, they watch someone repair a wooden chair and ask about the neighborhood's changing shops. The photographer discovers interesting reflections in a window and admits that he would probably have missed them while searching for a perfect view. The slower pace also leaves room for questions.
Rosa cannot make every route suitable for everyone, and she says so. Still, giving clear information before the walk allows visitors to make informed choices. They finish without seeing the hill, but nobody feels that the tour was merely a reduced version of something better. It was a different experience shaped by the people present.
