Mina begins sketching because drawing makes ordinary places interesting. A crooked window or an uneven row of chairs can occupy her attention for half an hour. When she joins an online drawing group, she enjoys the encouragement and discovers useful techniques. A daily posting challenge seems like an obvious next step: a little structure might help her practise more regularly.
At first, the challenge works. She draws on evenings when she might otherwise scroll through videos. Gradually, however, she begins choosing subjects that are easy to finish before midnight. Her account shows an impressive sequence of posts, but her private sketchbook contains fewer experiments. Missing a day starts to feel more serious than spending a week drawing things she does not particularly care about.
A friend asks what the challenge is helping her achieve. Mina initially answers with the number of consecutive days she has posted. Then she notices that she has described the measurement rather than the purpose. She wanted to observe the world more closely and enjoy making imperfect pictures. The posting schedule was supposed to support those aims, not replace them with a separate obligation.
Mina does not delete her account or declare all tracking harmful. She changes the arrangement: three drawing sessions a week, no requirement to publish, and one session devoted to something unfamiliar. She still shares work when she wants feedback. The group remains valuable, but its visible numbers no longer decide whether an evening has been worthwhile.
This fictional example does not prove that challenges spoil hobbies. Some people find lasting pleasure in a daily routine. It does suggest a useful question whenever a leisure activity acquires targets: is the structure helping you return to what you enjoy, or teaching you to value only what can be counted? The answer may change, and the arrangement can change with it.
was supposed to
The schedule was supposed to support her interest.
does not prove…suggests
One example does not prove a rule, but it suggests a question.
