Your study group is considering a paid discussion platform. A member says, “We should all subscribe because the shared notes are useful.” You agree that shared notes matter, but you are unsure about a monthly payment. Separate the shared goal from the proposed method before you disagree.

Only acknowledge a point you actually accept. “That is a great idea, but it is useless” sends a confusing message. A more honest sentence is, “The shared notes would help; I am less convinced that every member needs a subscription.” The disagreement concerns the arrangement, not the intelligence of the person suggesting it.

A useful disagreement gives the group something to consider. Ask what a trial would need to show, or who would compare the options. If you cannot suggest an alternative yet, say so directly: “I have a concern about cost, but I need more information before recommending another tool.”
