礼貌请求，不必绕很远

At a reading event, An cannot hear the speaker clearly. She says, 'Could you speak a little more slowly, please?' The request names one action and a small change. She does not need a long apology before asking for help. A friendly tone and clear words work together.

Later, An asks a friend to read a long draft. She explains when she needs comments and adds, 'If you are busy, a few notes on the first page would help.' Politeness also means respecting time and accepting a refusal, rather than adding please to an unreasonable demand.
