Jia wants to meet a friend at the city library. Her first message says, 'Let's meet at ten on Saturday.' At introduces the clock time, while on introduces the day. Her friend agrees, but asks whether she means the coming Saturday or the following one.
Let's meet at ten on Saturday。
Jia rewrites the invitation: 'Let's meet on 12 September at 10 a.m.' For a longer period, she might say, 'Our reading club starts in September.' 'On September' is not the pattern for a month alone. A full date, however, uses on.
Her friend replies, 'I am busy this Saturday. Could we meet next week?' Time phrases beginning with this, next or last usually need no at, on or in. Write 'next week', rather than 'in next week', when you mean the following calendar week.
For an online chat with someone abroad, Jia adds 'Beijing time, UTC plus eight' and writes the date in words. She does not assume everyone shares her local time. She also learns that British 'at the weekend' and American 'on the weekend' are both normal; clarity matters more than choosing one accent.
纠错:in next week → next week
in a week 表示一周之后,in the next week 可表示接下来一周内,含义和结构不同,不要一律删去所有 in。
Can we talk next week, on Tuesday at eight?
at the weekend 和 on the weekend 都有正常使用语境。
Could we meet on 15 September at 8 p.m. Beijing time?
