说了‘昨天’，动词还要变吗？

Yesterday, Tao went to the parcel station after dinner. He collected a small box and walked home. In Chinese, a time word can make the past clear without changing a verb. In this English story, the verbs also show the past.

昨天，小陶晚饭后去了快递站。他取了一个小盒子，然后走回家。中文可以通过时间词表明过去，而不用改变动词形式。这段英语叙述里的动词也要表达过去。

Tao writes, 'I went to the station yesterday.' For this completed trip, 'I go to the station yesterday' needs a change: go becomes went. Some verbs add ed, like collected and walked. Other verbs have different forms, like buy and bought.

小陶写道：I went to the station yesterday。讲这次已经完成的行程时，I go to the station yesterday 需要把 go 改成 went。有些动词加 ed，如 collected、walked；另一些会变成不同形式，如 buy 和 bought。

His friend asks, 'Did you buy a new lamp?' Tao answers, 'No, I didn't buy a lamp. I bought a book.' Did and didn't already carry the past form here, so use buy after them. Do not write 'didn't bought' in this pattern.

朋友问：Did you buy a new lamp? 小陶回答：No, I didn't buy a lamp. I bought a book. 这里 did 和 didn't 已经体现过去，后面的动词用 buy。在这个结构中不要写 didn't bought。

Tao adds, 'The station was busy, but the staff were helpful.' These sentences use was and were, the past forms of be. He asks, 'Was the queue long?' He does not add did. First find the verb, then choose the right question pattern.

小陶补充：快递站很忙，但工作人员很乐意帮忙。这些句子用了 be 的过去式 was 和 were。他问队伍长不长时说 Was the queue long?，不用再加 did。先找到动词，再选合适的问句结构。

我昨天没有出门。

Were you at home last night?

你昨晚在家吗？
